I’m not talking about the manufacturer like Heckler & Koch or Colt because obviously those are the manufacturers. I mean MP5 or M4A1, what does that stand for? Where does it come from? It just seems like random letters and numbers. Is there any rhyme or reason to how they name these. I know that ACR stands for Adaptive Combat Rifle and I’m pretty sure that AA-12 is Auto Assault 12 (and where do the numbers come from also? The 12 just seems random?).
